Welcome to the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Regional Lead Series. Over the next several months we will be introducing the Regional Leads who work behind the scenes for the Regional Cancer Program. This month we would like to introduce Dr. Meghan Davis! Dr. Davis has worked with the HNHB Regional Cancer Program for 7 years now.
She took some time to introduce herself by answering a few questions:
I am the Primary Care Lead for Cancer Screening and the Medical Lead for the Mobile Cancer Screening Coach.
What is your day job?
I am a family physician with a practice in the Crown Point neighbourhood in the East end of Hamilton. I also work as an associate lead physician for the Hamilton Family Health Team.
Why is cancer screening important?
After being in practice for over 20 years, I really see the power of healthy choices including eating and sleeping well, not smoking and exercising to maintain wellness. Preventing cancer or finding it early through participation in screening is part of healthy habits that help us all stay well.
What is one piece of advice you would provide?
There is a lot of research about the connection between nature and health. My own piece of advice would be to go for a walk outside every day.
What is one positive thought you would like to share?
Having an attitude of gratitude makes us all happier.
What do you do to decompress?
I hike outside and try to keep my focus on the beauty around me. Spring is a beautiful time! I try to follow the advice I give my own patients and I bike to work, usually eat a plant based diet, stay connected to family and friends and get enough sleep. It is the small habits that help us all handle stress.
