Family physicians and members of the primary care team play a crucial role in cancer care, greatly influencing patients’ participation in cancer screening and providing care and support for patients and their families throughout the cancer journey.
The Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Regional Cancer Program supports cancer screening services for the areas of Hamilton, Burlington, Niagara, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk. An important part of this support includes ensuring that healthcare providers across the region know where to go for cancer screening resources, updates and support.
To assist healthcare providers in screening their patients, we have a Regional Primary Care Lead (RCPL). The role of the RCPL allows the Regional Cancer Program to meaningfully engage primary care in all aspects of the cancer system. The goals of the RPCL are to:
- Share knowledge about cancer and the cancer system
- Provide continuing professional development (CPD) events
- Work with individual primary care providers to improve cancer outcomes and to ensure that patients receive high-quality care every step of the way
- Work with CCO to ensure that program design includes primary care engagement
On this webpage you will have access to local resources and information including referral forms, presentations, screening promotional materials, screening guidelines and a blog written by our RCPL, Dr. Meghan Davis.
