There’s lots of discussion about breast cancer screening, and I believe that offering informed choice for patients is key. Women are eligible to participate in the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) if they are Ontario residents between the ages of 50 to 74 with:
- No acute breast symptoms
- No personal history of breast cancer
- No current breast implants
- Have not had a mammogram in the past 11 months
Tools are being developed to help patients make informed consent for mammograms. Meanwhile, here’s a downloadable tool from the Canadian Task Force on Preventative Health Care, including a downloadable pdf decision-making tool.
